Hi all! This is the first blog post in a short series I’m doing on traveling with nail polish. In this first post, I’m covering how I pack nail polish for air travel. I usually use this method when I’ll by flying on an airplane, and it works well for travel by ground as well.
Things to note:
- Some polishes travel better than others. In particular, I’ve noticed that my CND polishes don’t travel well. They tend to leak no matter how tightly I close the bottles. For that reason, I usually take Orly Rubberized Bonder insead of my usual CND Stickey Base Coat.
- For nail polish remover, I use a small travel size bottle (the 2 oz. bottles of Zoya Remove+ are great for this). I “double bag” the remover and then put it either inside the padded toiletry bag with the polishes (if it fits), or just inside my suitcase. As long as the top of the bottle is tightly closed, I don’t have any problem with leaking.
Oh, and CLICK HERE for the info on the cosmetic bag (links to the tutorial).

I am having trouble with my seche vite top coat bubbling. I was wondering if you had any tips on preventing that, or know if I’m doing something wrong that makes it do that! I love your nails and blogs :) thank you!!!

It might be the polish your using. Seche Vite bubbles on me when I use it over any of the “3-Free” polishes (like Zoya).

Waouh…this seems a lot of trouble and a lot of space taken for few bottles ? Honnestly I travelled a lot by plane with my whole stash of nail polishes and just packed them very skeezy-tight in a big make up bag. Though my luggage was sometime travelling in not so cautious condition (happy planes) I never had any accident of bottle break. But I did have the bubbles like Tara Jo with one cheap mettalic nail polish after the bottle spent some time high in the air plane truck (trunk ? I don’t know the name in english)…Has that ever happened to you with your polishes ? Great blog. Take care ! (Pardon my English)
