VIDEO: Polish Tips! Getting the perfect white manicure

October 23, 2013

I recently found some old video footage that I shot back in June. While I don’t like the particular polish color I used in the video (I think it’s technically a white neon), the tips included in the video are valuable because white (and super light) nail polishes are particularly challenging. It can be difficult to get perfect results.

Here are some tips and tricks for getting the best manicure possible when using white polishes. :)

NOTE: The polish I used is the video is Mod in Manhattan from Color Club. It was included in a Birchbox sample box.

Not my favorite color, either but I LOVE the video and the tips, super excited to try it out. Thanks! :)

It’s a weird color, right? I thought it would be nice, like it is in the bottle, but once out of the bottle it turns super bright and weird. I think I took it off right after I filmed the video.

Great video with good tips. Any tips on getting a transparent polish, like Essie’s Ballet Slipper to look good? Does the bonder help with that? I feel like I end up with brush strokes/lines showing or it’s on so heavy it isn’t transparent anymore. I’m ordering bonder today, thanks to you. :)

Bonder might help with the streakiness, but if you’re looking to hide your nail line or make it more opaque, I would suggest painting your nails in an opaque white first (like OPI’s Alpine Snow), and then doing a couple coats of Ballet Slippers. That’s what I would do since I don’t like VNL (visible nail line). :)

I think I’ll try the opaque white idea. Maybe it is the VNL that bugs me. :)

Wow, great video! I need to get a brush like that and that pump bottle is cool too! I can see that practice and patience really work well for this!
